*copy provided by author in exchange for an honest review*External forces follows Jess and Jay best friends as children and now both in the "army." Jess is training for special intelligence and Jay to be a pilot of sorts. Throughout the story that grow, find love, and learn things about themselves that change their lives.
I liked the way this book was written, it was well done although I struggled a little bit with the back story. The back story was slightly overwhelming which made some of the book hard to read, but it's easy to overlook once you get passed it because the information is essential to the story.
The characters and the world building was very good. The characters were easy to understand and easy to relate to. I liked and connected with each of them personally. I think there is something in each character for every reader to enjoy. They're all different and their personalities mesh well together making for fluid reading.
The ending was sort of a cliffhanger. So I'll need the second book in order to have some of my burning questions answered. I'm pretty excited about it though, so that's a good thing. External forces is a good read for sci-fi and young adult fans. Readers will be intrigued by the cast of characters and the unique plot.
