I found myself squinting at the pages and going back and forth in wonderment. This story is so complex it sometimes reads like a non-fiction as opposed to fiction. The plot is unlike anything I've ever read. The story takes us into ancient worlds and into the gritty secretive streets of San Francisco in a way I've never known them to be. There is an obvious connection and knowledge to the way the area is written into the story.
The writing is sharp, and witty, giving life to its characters and providing necessary and intriguing background.
The characters themselves are three dimensional with quirks and powers that are both contemporary and otherworldly. The characters definitely jump out at you with how they're written into the story and how realistic they come across.
This is one of those books that stay with you long after you've finished the last page. Prepare to delve into a world unlike anything you've ever imagined.
